Living in the background

October 18, 2018 Lisa Marsh

I saw this picture and I had to catch my breath for a moment.

The focus on him. The wistful look on her face, patiently waiting for attention.

It made me wonder, how often does this happen that I don't even notice. How much time do they spend waiting while I focus on him and his needs.

Balance is the hardest thing. Fairness. Figuring how to get everyone's needs met, when there is just one of you to go around. They all need 100%. But there are four of them and one of me.

This book is absolutely rocking my world and making me rethink everything I thought I knew about how children learn. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend. https://amzn.to/2Xa5dYI
Sad snow blob.

A visit to the 80+ degree butterfly house was just what our chilly bodies needed after all this snow!
Today's snow day activity is watercolors - experimenting with blending colors, and then they taped them up all over the house for an art gallery tour.
I have thoroughly enjoyed our snow days over the past week, and I'll be a little sad to see it go. There's something so peaceful about it. Even with four kids in the house, life feels more calm. We move slower; we appreciate looking out our windows; we step outside to just watch and listen; we notice details in the nature around us as they are offset by a background of white.
Coloring and drawing for days and days through our snowy weather. She's drawing pictures and scenes from a book series they've all been reading (Warrior Cats). If I ever had any doubt about reading comprehension, this tells me all I need to know.
Crazy Snow Dog
A large hawk spotted in our backyard arboretum this morning.
